Saint of the Day: Seven Holy Founders of the Servite Order

On February 17, the Church honors the Seven Holy Founders of the Servite Order, a group of wealthy merchants from Florence, Italy, who lived in the 13th century. Moved by a deep love for God and devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary, they chose to leave behind comfort and status to live a life of prayer, penance, and service.

Together, they founded the Order of the Servants of Mary (Servites), dedicating their lives to honoring Our Lady, especially her sorrows at the foot of the Cross. Their community grew as a powerful witness of fraternity, humility, and Marian devotion within the Church.

These holy men remind us that true discipleship often requires radical trust in God and a willingness to walk together in faith.

Did You Know?

The Servite Order has a special devotion called the Seven Sorrows of Mary, which invites the faithful to meditate on the suffering and compassion of the Blessed Mother.

Prayer

Seven Holy Founders of the Servite Order,
faithful servants of Mary and witnesses of unity,
pray for us that we may follow Christ with humility and love.
Teach us to honor the Blessed Virgin Mary
and to serve God faithfully in community and charity.
Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
