The Trump administration on Dec. 18 announced plans for the “Patriot Games,” a nationwide high school athletic competition that will bring students from every state and U.S. territory to Washington, D.C., as part of celebrations marking the country’s 250th anniversary in 2026.
President Donald Trump outlined the event in a video detailing the broader America 250 agenda, describing the Patriot Games as a four-day competition scheduled to take place in the fall of 2026 in the capital. The games will feature “the greatest high school athletes, one young man and one young woman from each state and territory,” according to the President.
Trump said the competition is intended to showcase athletic excellence and national unity as part of the semiquincentennial observances. Trump emphasized fair competition, stating there would be “no men playing in women’s sports.”
“We will celebrate our history, our people, and the greatness of America like never before,” he said.
The Patriot Games are among several high-profile events planned for the anniversary year, which will include a National Mall state fair, a National Prayer Event, a Memorial Day parade, and a large-scale Fourth of July celebration in Washington. Oversight of the festivities will be handled by Freedom 250, a national, nonpartisan organization formed to coordinate the anniversary events.
Additional details about the Patriot Games, including participating sports, venues, and selection criteria for student-athletes, have not yet been released. Freedom 250 officials said more information about America 250 programming is expected in the coming months.
