EWTN honored its longtime president Doug Keck with the 2025 Mother Angelica Award in a Dec. 12 ceremony recognizing “his decades of service, faithful leadership, and tireless commitment to the mission of evangelization.”
“On behalf of the entire EWTN family around the globe, I want to thank Doug for keeping the mission of EWTN our number one priority over the years and never compromising on sharing the truth of the Gospel for views or clicks,” said Michael Warsaw, chairman and CEO of EWTN, according to a press release from the network. “EWTN is better off today for his contributions and for his dedication to our mission. He is more than deserving of this award which honors Mother’s legacy and impact on the world.”
Keck began his career in cable television, working behind the scenes for channels like Sports Channel, Bravo, AMC, and CNBC. He came to EWTN in 1996 and helped launch “Life on the Rock,” “The Journey Home,” “EWTN Bookmark,” and “The World Over.” The release said he was also crucial to EWTN’s expansion across television, radio, and the internet.
From 2013 until June 2025, Keck served as the network’s president and chief operating officer. Although he is now retired from those roles, he holds the honorary title of President Emeritus and still hosts “EWTN Bookmark” and co-hosts “Father Spitzer’s Universe.”
Keck explained that he took Mother Angelica’s guidance to heart when leading the network.
“Mother Angelica always said our job is to soak the earth with the truth of the Gospel and the Catholic Church,” he said, according to the release. “That’s been EWTN’s number one priority and I’ve been proud to be a part of it alongside so many other dedicated people.”
The Mother Angelica Award, which was established in 2021, honors leaders with great faith, courage, and zeal for the Gospel.
While Keck is best known for his time at EWTN, his work wasn’t always in service to the Gospel. According to the release, Keck said that God called him to a radical professional transformation in the midst of a career in secular media that had included helping launch the Playboy channel. Keck hopes that his story will help encourage other Catholics to follow God’s voice in their professional lives.
“That’s what we’re called to do, really,” Keck said, according to the release. “You don’t bury what you’ve been given. You give your talents over to Him.”
