“Prepare the Way of the Lord”
As we move deeper into this holy season of Advent, Tuesday invites us to pause and ask a simple but powerful question: Where in my life does Jesus want to come more fully?
Advent is not only about remembering the birth of Christ in Bethlehem — it is about welcoming Him into the quiet Bethlehem of our own hearts. Every day, the Lord knocks gently, waiting for us to open the door a little wider.
Today, the Gospel reminds us to “prepare the way of the Lord.”
This preparation is not about doing many things, but about doing one thing well:
making room for Jesus.
We do this when we choose forgiveness over resentment.
When we choose silence over noise.
When we choose generosity over selfishness.
When we choose prayer over distraction.
And Jesus Himself tells us what He desires most:
“I desire mercy, not sacrifice.” (Matthew 9:13)
He is not looking for perfection.
He is looking for a humble, willing heart — a heart that tries again, even after falling.
A heart that says, “Lord, come into the places where I struggle, and make them new.”
This Tuesday, let us offer Him the gift He treasures most:
a heart that is trying to love.
Advent Prayer for Tuesday
Lord Jesus,
prepare my heart for Your coming.
Teach me to choose mercy, to forgive quickly,
to give generously, and to love without counting the cost.
Remove from me anything that keeps me far from You,
and fill my soul with Your peace.
Come, Lord Jesus — be born in me again today.
Amen.
