When we receive the Sacrament of Penance (Confession) with true sorrow and a sincere heart, several powerful graces are given to us:
- Forgiveness of all mortal and venial sins
God wipes away every sin we confess with sincere repentance. The soul becomes clean, restored, and renewed in grace. - Reconciliation with God and the Church
Sin separates us from God, but Confession brings us back into communion with Him and with His Church. - Restoration of sanctifying grace
The soul once again shares in God’s own life—grace is restored where it was lost through serious sin. - Peace of conscience and spiritual consolation
God gives interior peace, lifting the heavy burden of guilt. Many experience a deep sense of joy and relief. - Strength to resist future temptations
The sacrament gives us special grace to avoid sin, grow in virtue, and overcome our weaknesses. - Spiritual healing
Confession heals the wounds sin has caused in our heart and helps us grow in love and humility. - Help in purifying our soul from temporal punishment
While Confession removes the eternal punishment of sin, it also helps reduce the temporal punishment that remains.
