Former staff members of retired abortionist start late-term abortion facility in Colorado

Former staffers from retired abortionist Warren Hern’s now-closed Boulder Abortion Clinic have opened a new Colorado facility offering abortions at any point in  pregnancy, for “any reason.”

The new facility, RISE Collective, which stands for “Reproductive Health, Inclusive Care, Support and Empowerment,” opened Oct. 14 and began seeing clients that day, according to local outlet Yellow Scene. The group is made up of 13 former employees from Hern’s clinic, including doctors, nurses, and support staff.

The abortion center released a promotional video earlier this month announcing that it has begun scheduling late-term abortions.

“At RISE Collective, we believe that any reason you have for needing abortion care is yours, and it is the right one,” the video states. “In Colorado, there are no restrictions on when you can receive care. But while the law is clear, access is not.”

The video notes that abortion was decriminalized in Colorado in 1967, codified into law in 2022, and added to the state constitution in 2024. Colorado remains one of few states with no legal limits on abortion at any stage of pregnancy. According to the pro-abortion Guttmacher Institute, Alaska, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, New Mexico, Oregon, and Vermont — along with Washington, D.C. — also have no gestational limits on abortion.

Yellow Scene reported that the Boulder facility is also considering providing “gender-affirming care” to minors and “contraceptive care.” According to the outlet, Alicia Moreno, executive director of the facility, said so-called “gender-affirming care” came under consideration after a regional hospital contacted the facility to ask whether it would “be willing to step up and provide” procedures and services to those under 20.

RISE advertises itself as one of the few abortion centers in the nation providing abortions during “all trimesters,” continuing the practice of Hern’s Boulder Abortion Clinic, which operated for more than 50 years before closing earlier this year.

As CatholicVote previously reported, Hern retired in January after having killed an estimated 42,000 preborn children, and his facility closed its doors in April. In an article published by The Atlantic, Hern admitted that he suffered psychological distress and nightmares earlier in his career about the children he had aborted.
