Saint of the Day: Saint Frumentius

Feast Day: October 27

Patronage:
Ethiopia and missionary bishops.

Biography:
Saint Frumentius was born in the early 4th century and is known as the Apostle of Ethiopia. As a young man, he was captured and brought to the court of the king of Aksum (in present-day Ethiopia). Over time, he gained the king’s trust and used his position to spread the Christian faith. After the king’s death, Frumentius helped the queen govern and encouraged Christian merchants to worship freely.

When he later traveled to Alexandria, he met Saint Athanasius, who recognized his holiness and ordained him the first Bishop of Aksum. Through Frumentius’s tireless work, Christianity took deep root in Ethiopia, becoming one of the earliest Christian nations in the world. He died peacefully after many years of faithful service to the Gospel.

Prayer:
O God, who called Saint Frumentius to bring the light of the Gospel to Ethiopia, grant that through his prayers, we may spread Your truth with courage and joy. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
