A Utah memorial honoring Turning Point USA (TPUSA) co-founder Charlie Kirk was canceled because of safety threats, organizers announced this week.
“We don’t want anyone hurt,” organizers said in a statement, according to Christian Newswire. “This was meant to be a celebration of faith, freedom, and gratitude for the work Charlie did to inspire millions of Americans.”
The event had been scheduled for Oct. 11 across the street from the Utah County Jail, according to the memorial’s website, which later confirmed the gathering was “canceled because of threats.”
Despite the cancellation, supporters say Kirk’s legacy continues to inspire Americans. Christian Newswire reported that a 10-year-old girl, moved by his message of faith and courage, donated an eight-foot statue of Christ in Kirk’s memory. The statue now stands across the street from the Utah County Jail as a tribute to Kirk.
Supporters launched a GoFundMe campaign to relocate the statue to TPUSA’s headquarters in Phoenix, Arizona, or to the White House Rose Garden, where they say it could serve as a lasting memorial to Kirk’s leadership and influence on young Americans.
“We are asking for your prayers and help to spread this story of an amazing young girl’s heart,” one organizer said, according to Christian Newswire. “Her faith and generosity remind us of the hope Charlie always spoke about — that even in dark times, the light of Christ will shine.”
On Oct. 14, President Donald Trump posthumously awarded Kirk the Presidential Medal of Freedom, describing him as a “fearless warrior for liberty.” The award, presented to his widow, Erika Kirk, coincided with what would have been Kirk’s 32nd birthday. In a video shared after the ceremony, Erika showed the back of her late husband’s award, engraved with a Christian cross.
