Knights of Columbus leader asks all knights to pray the Rosary for peace daily in October

Patrick Kelly, the supreme knight of the Knights of Columbus, has called on all members of the Knights of Columbus to recite the Rosary daily for peace for the month of October, echoing Pope Leo’s recent request to the faithful.

The message, which was sent via email, begins by reminding Knights of their initiation ceremony.

“When you joined the Knights of Columbus, you received a rosary that exemplifies the Order’s enduring devotion to the Blessed Mother,” Kelly wrote in the press release. “Now, Pope Leo XIV has invited all the faithful to pray the rosary every day in October for the intention of peace.”

Kelly wrote that the world is in profound need of God’s peace. He pointed to war, political violence, religious persecution, and dehumanization as examples of problems in the world Knights should be bringing to God in prayer.

“None of us are untouched by the conflicts of our broken world,” he wrote.

At the Knights’ Supreme Convention, held Aug. 5-7, Pope Leo delivered a video message to attendees, where he spoke about the Knights’ mission to be “Heralds of Hope.” Kelly reflected on this in the press release, reiterating the Holy Father’s call to bring God’s love into seemingly hopeless situations.

Kelly urged Knights to do just that by praying a daily Rosary for peace in the month of October, ensuring them that he and his family would be joining them. He also encouraged Knights to pray with other Knights at Council meetings, and to invite others in the community to take part.

He closed the press release by invoking Mary, Queen of Peace.

October has long been designated the month of the Rosary, especially because of the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary, which is observed Oct. 7 every year, the anniversary of Our Lady’s miraculous intercession at the Battle of Lepanto in 1571.
