About St. Alphonsus Liguori

St. Alphonsus Liguori was born in 1696 near Naples, Italy. A brilliant lawyer, he left a successful legal career to become a priest after feeling called by God. In 1732, he founded the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer, known as the Redemptorists, to serve the poor and neglected, especially in rural areas.

St. Alphonsus was a gifted preacher, writer, and theologian. He is best known for his deep devotion to Our Lady and for his influential spiritual works, including The Glories of Mary and Moral Theology. He emphasized God’s mercy and encouraged Christians to approach confession and Holy Communion with love and trust.

He was declared a Doctor of the Church in 1871 for his profound contributions to Catholic moral teaching and devotion.

St. Alphonsus died in 1787 and remains a model of humility, zeal, and compassion.
