Here are practical criteria you can use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"check-that-it-is-truly-catholic-not-just-christian\">Check that it is truly \u201cCatholic\u201d (not just Christian)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"look-for-ecclesiastical-approval\">Look for ecclesiastical approval<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A Catholic Bible should be produced\/issued in communion with the Church and, in the Catholic tradition, is commonly offered\u00a0<strong>with \u201cecclesiastical Imprimatur\u201d and suitable explanatory notes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"use-a-translation-intended-for-catholics-prayer-and-pastoral-life\">Use a translation intended for Catholics\u2019 prayer and pastoral life<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Church encourages access to Scripture through translations prepared by experts, describing that Catholic translations can provide \u201ca solid basis for the prayer and pastoral activity of all Christ\u2019s followers.\u201d<br>Pope Leo XIV likewise emphasizes that translations remain indispensable for encounter with God, and he encourages frequent reading of the Bible (e.g., lectio divina).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"make-sure-the-old-testament-is-the-catholic-one\">Make sure the Old Testament is the Catholic one<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A \u201cCatholic Bible\u201d must include the&nbsp;<strong>books the Catholic Church receives as canonical<\/strong>&nbsp;(the so-called deuterocanonical books).
